Swayneville State School takes pride in our children, but it also takes pride in the facilities and grounds.
Recent years have seen significant change in the quality and quantity of our buildings. While the usual round of maintenance work has been undertaken, the school has received (under the BER - 2011) a new Resource Centre that houses the school library, administration, small teaching area and Principal's Office. The library is open plan with computer areas, teaching spaces, mats for games, and of course ... books! It is a warm and welcoming, colourful space for students to access during class time or within the main play time.
In January 2014, the school needed a dedicated prep building. So one was built just before the cyclone hit, and in time for the school year. The construction of this building saw the establishment of a new covered sandpit, the extension of the covered walkway and pathways, and a rejuvenation of the lawn in the junior open play area. This dedicated building has a kitchenette, prep sized furnishings, store room and office/teacher work space that is away from exploring fingers.
Our school now has both a 'senior' and 'junior' play equipment, thanks to the fundraising efforts of our P&C. Work on the gardens and drainage within the grounds continue to be a focus as we partner with Reef Guardian and Landcare to establish an attractive and eco-friendly school.
