Visiting author, Mr Brad Huddleston, and Mackay Community Police Sergeant, Nigel Dalton attended the school last Friday. This was a targeted presentation to the school children that resulted in the children’s ability to repeat the learning that technology is good, but ‘too much technology’ is bad for you.The brain gets ‘tickled’ through the use of screens and it gradually builds up resistance that requires more and more to achieve the same pleasure. This can result in anger and lead to depression and anxiety. Alternative activities were encouraged to balance exposure, and self regulation with parental support was recommended.St. Nigel discussed bullying (including cyber bullying) and highlighted the impact of words. Individual strategies were discussed, as was the fact that all of us bear the responsibility to intervene if we see it happening. This talk was cleverly delivered through the bubble blowing example pictured.
